Description

Enhance your toolkit for engaging children in understanding their behaviour and its consequences effectively. Start discussions about emotions, feelings, and outcomes using question fans. Then utilise consequence boards to collaboratively determine fair consequences for both positive and negative behaviours. With over 50 visual symbols, including 40 with accompanying questions, children can express themselves and delve into the reasons behind their actions.

Key Features

  • Engage children in discussions about emotions, feelings, and outcomes.
  • Use question fans and consequence boards for collaborative decision-making.
  • Includes over 50 visual symbols and 40 questions to explore behaviour.
  • Prompts children to identify and express their emotions effectively.

Additional Information

The questions start simply, such as ‘What does this facial expression mean?’ then follow through with more in-depth questions such as ‘How do you know how someone else is feeling?’ (giving an opportunity to talk about facial expression and actions associated with emotions). The set progresses to talking about behaviour ‘What helps you calm down when you are feeling cross?’ and ‘How can you tell someone how you are feeling?’. These questions progress onto the last fan which looks at ‘What would happen if?’ and deals with the consequences of behaviour so children can learn appropriate alternative actions. The set of fans introduces various facial expressions and their contexts, prompting children to identify when they feel happy, sad, scared, or angry. Through this exploration, understand how children respond to different situations. Empower children to participate in decision-making regarding suitable consequences for their actions, fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership.

Recommendations

“I really like this resource. It’s fascinating to find out how children think and feel. I have to admit that I made some assumptions about why children behave the way they do without realising what is behind the behaviour. This kit has helped me to help children understand consequences both negative and positive.” – Primary School Teacher, Yorkshire
