Additional Information

Hip Protector Pads have been helping to prevent hip fractures for many years. By using these pads, they can save some individuals at risk of falling from a fracture, or even prevent another operation after a hip replacement. Pelican has designed these Hip Protector Pads to absorb and redistribute the impact of a fall, especially around the Greater Trochanter area, to safeguard the bone.

The Pelican Hip Protector Access Pants are modeled after our standard design, but with a large cut-out section to allow access for an incontinence pad to be worn over them. This feature allows the carer to change the incontinence pad without the need to change the Hip Protector Access Pants, thus reducing the amount of manual handling required.

Another benefit of this product is that they can be worn underneath normal underwear. If the individual wants to use the toilet, they only need to remove their normal underwear and can leave the Hip Protector Access Pants in place, especially when getting on and off the toilet, which may be a difficult transition for some people.

Important

It is hoped the Hip Protector Pads will prevent injury. As people can fall in many different ways, Pelican, like other manufacturers such as HipSaver, SafeHip and HipGuard can make no expressed or implied guarantee that the Hip Protector Pads will prevent injury. Please read the Important Notice to the Purchaser on our Instruction Sheet. Please report back to us if a fall occurs while wearing the Hip Protector Pads. We recommend consulting an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or other Health Professional to approve the suitability of this product. This product may help with the prevention of pressure sores on the hips. Sometimes, due to the patient deteriorating, the product may become unsuitable. Continuous monitoring is necessary and alternative products may be recommended.

FAQs

What type of Pads are best?
By far our most popular Pads are the white SuperSoft Washable Pads (Item # 179SSW). They can be washed, and are generally well-accepted by a person wearing them because they are not too thick. The white SuperSoft Washable T5 pads are slightly thicker, offering better impact absorption. They can also be washed. The green SuperSoft Pads are good for situations where the pads do not need to be washed. All of the Pelican Pads warm up once they have been next to the skin, so they are all comfortable. All Pelican Pads were found to reduce a controlled force to under the breakage threshold under university testing.

What size Pants is best?
For people who fit into different size categories we recommend selecting the slightly looser fit. The Hip Protector Pads are big enough to offer good protection without having to be very tightly worn.

Can I get the Pads sewn into the Pants?
Yes. When ordering from the drop down box, select the same number of:

  • Pads
  • Pants
  • Sew Pads In Option (at the bottom of the drop down box)
